Maïté Le Mens
Painting Conservator
Maïté Le Mens was born in France where she lived and studied. She completed a Master Degree in Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art, with a painting major, at the Ecole de Condé in Paris. During her study, she covered paper conservation, frame repair, gliding and preventive conservation.
In September 2011, Maïté moved to Australia and soon discovered her skills were in demand due to the volume of artworks requiring conservation work after the 2011 Brisbane floods. Since 2019, Maïté has been a dual French-Australian citizen.
In 2015, she finished her European Master of Fine Art, Restoration of cultural heritage. During her studies, she had the privilege of completing an internship at the Musée du Louvre, as well as the opportunity to intern in private studios in Lyon, Paris, Florence and Syria. Another opportunity was to partake in a programme to conserve 11th and 12th century frescos and 19th century icons with Syrian conservators and teachers from the Belgium school, La Cambre.
These experiences gave Maïté a greater understanding of the artworks placed in her care.
Maïté is a Professional Member of the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material (PM AICCM). This means, peer conservators-restorers and professionals have reviewed her qualifications and skills. From 2017 to 2021, Maïté has served as the Secretary of the Queensland Division of AICCM.
While Maïté has been working as an Art Conservator, she has also gained experience in project management and office practice.
From 2018 to late 2013, Maïté ran Studio 204 with her business partner Jennifer Loubser. Upon Jennifer’s decision to move back to the United States, Maïté has continued her work and to provide services from her South East Queensland base, through Atelier Art Conservation.
